Nearly 18 Years and Counting — From One Snowy Move to Thousands of Missions

From the Founder

Nicholas Edmond Baucom — Founder & Chief Executive Officer, Two Marines Moving

Founded

November 10, 2008

The Birthday of the United States Marine Corps

On that same day, Marine Corps veteran Nicholas Edmond Baucom registered the company domain, built the original website himself, and launched what would become a seventeen-plus-year mission.

It was not his first website. It was simply the first deployment of what would become Two Marines Moving.

Shortly thereafter, the company completed its first move.

The First Mission

It was a cold, snowy November day. The assignment was simple by today's standards:

Load a client's rented 17-foot U-Haul.

No fleet.

No brand recognition.

No dispatch system.

No established reputation.

Just a mission and two Marines.

The day before the move, Baucom hired another United States Marine. On move day, the founder became the company's first Team Leader.

For a few hours, it was simply a couple of Marines loading a truck and helping a client.

That was the beginning.

The Company Name Was Never Marketing

The name Two Marines Moving was never a branding exercise. It was literally a description of the first team.

Two Marines.

Moving.

That was it.

What started as a simple name became a long-term commitment to discipline, accountability, and service. Over time, that commitment grew into something much larger than a single move.

From Two Marines to More Than 1,000 Veterans

Since that first snowy mission, Two Marines Moving has grown substantially. Over the years, the company has:

Employed several hundred United States Marines

Employed more than 1,000 military veterans

Completed tens of thousands of moving missions

Served clients throughout the DMV and beyond

Growth was never accidental. Growth followed standards. Standards were established early. Standards were enforced consistently. And standards were protected even when doing so came with a short-term cost.

Leadership From the Front

From the very beginning, the company's leadership philosophy was straightforward:

Lead from the front.

The founder was the first Team Leader. The standards expected of others were first imposed on himself. That philosophy remains part of the company's operating doctrine today.

Team Leaders are expected to:

Set the pace

Maintain standards

Carry responsibility

Lead by example

Not because it sounds good.

Because it works.

Measuring Time Differently

Many companies measure their history in years. We look at additional metrics as well. Nearly eighteen years later, the scorecard includes:

Veterans employed

Clients served

Missions completed

Standards upheld

Reputation preserved

Years matter.

But what happens during those years matters more.

Still Here. Still Improving.

Still standing.

Still improving.

Still hiring.

Still serving clients.

Still employing veterans.

Still setting the standard.

The Bottom Line

A cold November day.

A rented U-Haul.

Two Marines.

One client.

That was the start.

Nearly eighteen years later, Two Marines Moving has employed more than 1,000 veterans, completed tens of thousands of moves, and continues pursuing the same mission that began in 2008:

Serve clients well.

Take care of teammates.

Maintain the standard.

And keep moving forward.

From two Marines and a rented truck to thousands of completed missions.

Mission First. Team Always.

Semper Fidelis,

Nicholas Edmond Baucom
