How Many Boxes Do I Need?

A Room-by-Room Guide with Pricing

One of the most common questions we receive is: "How many boxes will I need for my move?"

The answer depends on your lifestyle, how long you've lived in your home, and how much you've accumulated over the years. Some households live minimally and travel light. Others have collections, hobbies, home offices, children's items, seasonal decorations, and additional storage.

Studio Apartment

20–40 Boxes$90–$200

Most studio apartments can be packed efficiently with a combination of Small, Medium, Large, and Extra Large boxes.

One-Bedroom Apartment

40–65 Boxes$180–$350

Often includes kitchen items, clothing, linens, books, electronics, and decorative items. Many customers also add a Mattress Protection Bag and one Packing Paper Bundle.

Two-Bedroom Home or Apartment

65–100 Boxes$350–$600

Typically requires larger kitchen packing, additional clothing, guest room items, and garage or storage items. Protective materials become increasingly important at this size.

Three-Bedroom Home

100–150 Boxes$600–$1,000

Often includes multiple bedrooms, larger kitchens, home offices, children's rooms, storage spaces, and seasonal decorations. Many households also utilize Wardrobe Boxes, Picture Boxes, Stretch Wrap, and multiple Packing Paper Bundles.

Four-Bedroom Home

150–250 Boxes$1,000–$1,700

Frequently includes multiple family members, larger furniture inventories, extensive storage, garages, attics, and basements. These moves generally benefit from a more comprehensive packing strategy.

Planning Tip

Most customers underestimate the number of boxes required for their move. It's better to have a few extra boxes than not enough. Running out of boxes on packing day creates stress. Having a few remaining boxes at the end is far easier than making an emergency supply run in the middle of packing.
