But there is another group that has always stood shoulder-to-shoulder with us and often walks the same road of sacrifice, responsibility, and public service: America's First Responders.

Two Marines Moving's founder, Nicholas Baucom, is not simply adjacent to first responders. He has spent his entire adult life serving alongside them.
As a Marine Corps infantryman, he was trained as a Certified Combat Life Saver, receiving advanced medical instruction with a heavy emphasis on:
- Trauma care
- Hemorrhage control
- Emergency response under stress
- Casualty stabilization
That training was delivered by some of the finest Navy Corpsmen serving alongside the United States Marine Corps.
Experiences like that leave an impression. You do not forget what it means to stabilize someone when seconds matter. You do not forget what calm looks like when chaos is loud. You do not forget the people who run toward danger while others run away. That respect did not end when military service ended.
The Reserve World Changes Your Perspective
Many civilians imagine military service as a full-time world completely separate from civilian life. Marine Corps Reservists know better.
A drill weekend does not make a month's pay. Nearly every Marine in a reserve unit has another profession, another responsibility, and another commitment beyond the uniform.
The Marine standing next to you may also be:
- A police officer or deputy sheriff
- A firefighter, EMT, or paramedic
- A federal agent
- A teacher, business owner, or tradesman
During his years in the Marine Corps Reserve, Nicholas served alongside men from all of those professions. One of his Fire Team Leaders was a Memphis Police Officer. One of his Platoon Sergeants was a United States Marshal. A man with whom he shared fighting holes, observation posts, and deployments later became a Shelby County Sheriff's Deputy.
That overlap between military service and public service was not unusual. It was normal.
The reserve component is filled with Americans who choose to serve their communities both in and out of uniform. That experience shaped the culture of Two Marines Moving.
Some Stories Stay With You Forever
One Marine Nicholas mobilized with to Iraq in 2007 later became a Memphis Police Officer.
His name was Officer Sean Bolton.
Years after serving together overseas, Officer Bolton was killed in the line of duty while serving the citizens of Memphis.
At his funeral, Marines and police officers stood together. Approximately forty Marines who had served with him deployed to attend. Hundreds of law enforcement officers attended as well.
Different uniforms. Same ethos. Same spirit of service.
That is one reason the connection between veterans and first responders is so real. Many of us have watched friends serve honorably in both roles. Many of us have attended funerals where military service and public service stood side by side.
Those experiences leave a mark.

Veterans and first responders wear different uniforms. They serve different missions. They operate under different chains of command.
Yet they often share a remarkably similar ethos. They understand:
- Showing up when others hesitate
- Operating with imperfect information under pressure
- Putting team before ego

- Remaining professional when emotions run high
- Carrying the burden when others depend on them
That mindset rarely disappears when the shift ends. It becomes part of who a person is.

We work on strict timelines. We protect property. We manage logistics. We communicate with clients who are often stressed, overwhelmed, or navigating significant life events.
