From DEP to Boot Camp: Get Paid, Get Stronger, and Ship Ready

If you're in the Delayed Entry Program, this article is for you.

From the Founder

Nicholas Edmond Baucom — Founder & Chief Executive Officer, Two Marines Moving

You've signed the paperwork. You've taken the oath. You've committed to serve.

You may already have a ship date, or you may still be waiting on one. Either way, you're in a unique period of life.

You're no longer simply considering military service. You've made the commitment. At the same time, you're not yet on active duty.

You're in the space between the decision and the deployment.

And that time matters.

At Two Marines Moving, we've worked with DEP members for years, and we believe those months can be some of the most productive months of your life — if used correctly.

The Founder Was Once DEP Too

This isn't theory.

The founder of Two Marines Moving was once in the Delayed Entry Program himself. After signing his enlistment contract in April 2002, he spent approximately four months in the DEP before shipping to Marine Corps Recruit Training in July 2002.

He remembers exactly what that period felt like — the excitement, the anticipation, the uncertainty, the desire to prepare.

Like many future service members, he spent those months preparing physically, mentally, and professionally for what came next.

Later, after earning the title Marine, he served as a Marine Recruiter's Aide and worked directly with poolees preparing to ship to boot camp. His responsibilities included:

  • Leading physical training sessions
  • Running group PT workouts
  • Teaching basic military knowledge
  • Teaching formation procedures
  • Teaching attention to detail
  • Assisting future Marines in preparing for recruit training
  • Providing guidance on what truly mattered before shipping

When we say we understand DEP life, we mean it literally. We've lived it.

We Hire DEP Members From All Branches

Over the years, Two Marines Moving has employed future service members from nearly every branch, including:

  • Marine Corps Poolees
  • Army DEP Soldiers
  • Navy DEP Sailors
  • Air Force DEP Airmen
  • Coast Guard DEP Members
  • Space Force DEP Guardians

If you've signed the contract and are waiting to ship, you're exactly the type of person we're talking to.

Let's Set Expectations

We like DEP members. We hire a lot of them. But let's keep something clear.

Signing the paperwork is a significant achievement. It deserves respect. But until you actually ship to training, you're still a civilian preparing for military service. That's not criticism. That's reality.

This is not boot camp. This is not basic training. This is not recruit training. And nobody here is pretending otherwise.

At Two Marines Moving, we focus on things that actually matter:

  • Showing up on time
  • Taking responsibility
  • Following instructions
  • Working with a team
  • Developing discipline
  • Building work ethic
  • Learning accountability

Think of it as military-light.

There are standards. There is structure. There is accountability. But there is also real work, real expectations, and real pay.

A Paid Workout That Actually Helps

Most DEP members are trying to accomplish a few things before shipping:

  • Lose weight
  • Build strength
  • Improve endurance
  • Develop work capacity
  • Get mentally tougher

At Two Marines Moving, you don't pay for a gym membership. You get paid to work.

The job often involves:

  • Lifting and carrying
  • Walking and manual labor
  • Teamwork under time pressure
  • Staying productive when tired

Those experiences translate surprisingly well to military training environments. Many DEP members leave stronger, leaner, more confident, and better prepared than they would have been otherwise.

Weekly Pay and Daily Tips

Preparing for military service isn't free. Most future service members have expenses, responsibilities, and goals they want to accomplish before shipping.

DEP members working at Two Marines Moving may have opportunities to receive:

  • Weekly pay
  • Daily gratuity
  • Part-time or full-time work
  • Flexible scheduling

That means money coming in now, less financial stress before shipping, and additional savings before leaving for training. Not a bad position to be in before taking the next step in your military journey.

Learn From People Who Have Already Been There

One of the benefits of working at Two Marines Moving before shipping is simple exposure. DEP members often work alongside:

  • Military veterans
  • Active-duty service members
  • Reservists and National Guard members
  • Law enforcement officers and first responders

This is not a formal mentorship program. It is something more natural — the opportunity to spend time around people who have already traveled a road you're preparing to travel yourself.

You'll hear stories. You'll ask questions. You'll gain perspective. You'll learn practical lessons from people who have already experienced military service and understand what lies ahead.

Nobody can attend boot camp for you. Nobody can earn the title for you. But there is value in working alongside people who have already been there.

A Real Job Until You Ship

This isn't a throwaway job. This isn't busy work. This isn't something you're doing simply to pass the time.

It's real work with real standards, real accountability, real responsibilities, and real pay. Many DEP members work with us right up until their ship date. Along the way they develop:

  • Discipline and work ethic
  • Teamwork and time management
  • Personal accountability
  • Professional conduct

Those lessons remain useful long after military training begins.

Flexible Scheduling for DEP Life

DEP members often need flexibility for:

  • Recruiter meetings and MEPS appointments
  • Fitness preparation
  • Family commitments
  • Pre-shipping requirements

We understand that. Our scheduling approach is designed to allow flexibility while still maintaining professional standards and accountability. The goal is flexibility without chaos.

The Reality Check

Here's the truth. If you struggle to:

  • Show up on time
  • Follow instructions
  • Work with a team
  • Carry your share of the load
  • Finish difficult tasks

Military training will be significantly harder than it needs to be. Those are lessons worth learning before you ship. And if you're getting paid while learning them, even better.

The Bottom Line

If you're in the Delayed Entry Program, Two Marines Moving offers something unique:

  • Weekly pay and daily tips
  • Flexible scheduling
  • A paid workout
  • Real responsibility and real accountability
  • Exposure to veterans and service members
  • An opportunity to learn from people who have already been there
  • A productive way to spend the months before you ship

Most importantly, you'll be working in a company founded by someone who once stood where you're standing today — a DEP member preparing to leave for boot camp, waiting for a ship date, getting ready for the next chapter.

You haven't earned the title yet. You haven't graduated training yet. But you're on your way. And that journey deserves to be taken seriously.

Mission First. Team Always.

Apply today. Earn some money. Get stronger. Build discipline. Work with a team. Then ship ready.

Semper Fidelis,

Nicholas Edmond Baucom
